The most important requirements according to Prof. Dr. Luca-Moretti’s studies:

  1. Only the essential amino acids are critical for anabolic amino acid utilisation (NAV); non-essential amino acids must be broken down and then usually catabolized and excreted.
  2. Therefore, all 8 essential amino acids must be present at the same time, otherwise no NAV is possible (source: Block / Mitchell).
  3. All 8 essential amino acids must be present in the ratio specific to the human AS pattern (MAP = Master Amino Acid Pattern), otherwise a maximum NAV of 18% can be achieved.
